Your student will serve as a page for the day at the Indiana House of Representatives for the 117th Indiana General Assembly with House Speaker Brian Bosma (Republican Leader). Session begins January 2012 and ends March 14, 2012. The student must be 13 or older and will receive an excused absence for school. Specific date to be arranged with Leader Bosma's office.

Day at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway CIO Rhonda Winter
Your student will go behind the scenes at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway! They'll spend a 1/2 day shadowing IMS CIO Rhonda Winter. As CIO, Rhonda heads up the IS/IT departments along with the online
new media department and the photography at the track.
Call or email to schedule a day with a target on an outing during the month of May on a Monday through Friday except for Carburation Day. 1 guest OR parent is welcome. Student must be 13 or older.

Zoologist for the Day with Jon WassnerTake an all day zoo excursion to the zoo of your choosing with zoo expert Jon Wassner. Jon has visited nearly 80 zoos, published a book entitled America's Best Zoos: A Travel Guide for Fans and Families in 2008, worked as a zookeeper at three zoos. Zoo options include: Columbus, Cincinnati, Cincinnati Combo (Zoo and Aquarium), St. Louis, Brookfield (Chicago), Lincoln Park and/or Shedd Aquarium (Chicago), Toledo, Fort Wayne, Louisville and of course Indianapolis. Other options are available upon request.
Students of all ages welcome; zoo trips are enjoyable for both elementary and secondary students. Parents are encouraged to join & required for an out of town trip. Trip date to be coordinated with Jon. An exact date will depend on the zoo chosen, exhibit opening dates (if applicable) and weather. Best times are late spring or early summer.

Appellate Attorney for the Day with Maggie SmithTPCA parent and appellate attorney Maggie Smith will take up to four people to visit the Indiana Statehouse, tour the Indiana Supreme Court and Indiana Court of Appeals, meet some of the Justices and Judges who sit on those courts, and watch a real appellate oral argument.

Day with Director of Golf & Club Operations at Crooked Stick Golf ClubYour student and up to 3 guests will spend a couple of hours with TPCA dad Tony Pancake seeing what he does during a typical day – tour of the Club, give golf lessons, run tournaments, merchandising, caddy program, junior golf, etc.
Students should be 5th grade & higher. Golf experience is suggested. Event may not occur on a Monday. Parent is welcome. Dress Code: no jeans or t-shirts.

A Day at Shepherd Community Center with Jay HeightFind out what it takes to run Shepherd Community in downtown Indy. Spend a day at Shepherd Community shadowing executive director Jay Height through his day as he engages in their various programs and takes part in various meetings.

TPCC Worship Team ExperienceJoin Carmen Stanczykiewicz and the rest of the TPCC Worship Team for a week. You'll sit in their Thursday production meeting (12:00-12:30 ) as well as that Thursday night’s band rehearsal (6:00-9:30 or so) and then in the booth on Sunday morning of that same week from 7:00-12:30.
Recommended grade level for this outing is middle school & high school students.

Join the School Programs Department at the Childrens Museum for the DayYou & your student will join the school programs department as they work with students & teachers to provide extraordinary field trip opportunities & teacher professional development. Your student will shadow the School Programs manager. This may involve attending meetings, facilitating programs, & interacting with other staff in the department.
This outing is limited to students in grade 6-12 and requires a parent to accompany the student. The event will occur on a school/week day to be scheduled with the school programs manager. The student & parent should be able to sit or stand for extended periods of time. Dress is business casual with no jeans. Suit & tie are NOT required.

Choose your own Adventure through Career Counselor Lela Mixon at University of IndianapolisCareer Counselor at the University of Indianapolis & TPCA Mom Lela Mixon will provide two assessments, the MBTI and Strong Interest Inventory, for your student to help them generate ideas about how to use their interests, skills and values to explore academic majors and possible careers. Upon completion, Lela will provide assessment interpretations and then work to facilitate a college or business shadow experience ideally suited for your student.
Lela will work with the parent to arrange the interpretation site and time. The assessment is limited to 1 student, but 1 guest may join the student in their interpretation experience. These assessments are ideally suited for older students. The student should be 14 years or older for the assessments and 15 years or older for the shadow experience.

 Petco Cat Experience Your student will spend 1-2 hours at Petco (N. Michigan Rd) playing, taking care of, and learning about cats. The mentor will interact with student(s) when available to teach, answer questions, discuss volunteer opportunities, etc. Most of this event will be uninstructed time with child(ren) and cats.
A parent or high school student will accompany child(ren) during the entire event. Event cannot take place on Saturday, Sunday, or between Thanksgiving and Christmas. Opportunity expires one year from event (11/11/12). Parent will need to sign waiver for participation, which can be done upon arrival.

"Backpacking 101" with TPCA dad & backpacking guide Steve CarrHave you always wanted to try backpacking but aren’t sure where to begin? If so, this might be just the place to start! TPCA dad & backpacking guide, Steve Carr, will lead you & up to 3 other people on an overnight backpacking trip along the 12.4 mile Two Lakes Loop trail in Hoosier National Forest. Steve has led trips in IN, MI, WI, IL, KY, WY, CO, and AZ over the last 23 years and has been a guide for Voice of Wilderness (www.voiceofwilderness.org) since 2004, and loves passing on what he’s learned to others. This introductory “course” in backpacking will include:
• How to organize a trip including gear selection, route planning, and meal planning
• Basic orienteering (topographical map & compass)
• Starting a fire with limited supplies
• Singing show tunes (no, not really)
• Water: means of obtaining safe drinking water
• Cooking for a group
• “Leave no trace” camping practices
At least one participant must be an adult. Participants must provide their own clothing and sleeping bag—all other gear and food will be provided. The trip date should be a Saturday night between March 1, 2012 and November 1, 2012.

Legislative Analyst for the day with Steve WenningSpend the day with Legislative Analyst Steve Wenning. Your student will tour of the House and Senate Chambers and Legislative Services Agency. There will be discussion of the work that Legislative Services provides for Legislators (e.g. legal and fiscal research, drafting proposed laws, …). Based on availability, there may also be a meeting with a State Legislator.
Limited to student grades 5 and higher. The student may bring 1 guest and parents are also allowed. Outing would need to be after session ends. This is a short session year so this would be after 3/15/12.

Optometrist for a Day with Dr. Larry Koval at The Eye DoctorsYour student will spend 3 hours shadowing Optometrist Dr. Larry Koval at The Eye Doctors in Carmel.
Grades 10-12 preferred. Business casual dress required. No guests, but parents allowed outside of the exam rooms. Three hours can be in the morning or afternoon.

Physician for the Day with Dr. Sharree GrannisOne student will work with TPCA parent & family physician Dr. Sharree Grannis while she sees patients & teaches. Dr. Grannis' days are unpredictable & may involve caring for hospital patients, delivering a baby, seeing patients in the office and/or teaching future doctors. Dr. Grannis is Program Director for Indiana University Family Medicine Residency and Assistant Professor of Clinical Family Medicine for Indiana University School of Medicine. Come learn about the rewarding world of medicine and the opportunity for ministry to people of all ages and backgrounds; to be His hands and feet. Dr. Grannis' patients range in age from days to 105 years old and if we are blessed we'll have the chance to be the first to touch a baby just fresh from God.
This outing is limited to a middle school or high school student. No additional guests will be allowed. The parent(s) and student will need to sign a confidentiality statement prior to start the day. Dr. Grannis will attempt to schedule this during school breaks if desired by the parent(s). The student will need to be dressed professionally and have a short white coat. The student may see blood or other bodily fluids and should be aware of that possibility before considering the adventure.
