FAQs
1. Must you be a Christian to attend TPCA? It is very important that parents and students understand that TPCA is a Christian school operating on Biblical principles that will not be compromised. While students are not required to be Christians, all students are expected to participate daily in Bible study and prayer. This is the foundation of the Biblical worldview through which each student is expected to measure his or her actions and decision-making.
2. What do you do about doctrinal issues? Our school families and our staff members represent 90 churches. However, it is under the banner of Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior that we work to maintain the unity of faith as defined in the Bible. We believe that differing forms of worship are the business of the family and the church to which they belong. We know that children will make spiritual decisions during their school years and we will support them in that process. When they are making these decisions, we refer them to the home and to their church as their primary spiritual teachers.
3. What curriculum do you use? We use a variety of printed resources. Our curriculum and resources align with Indiana’s educational standards. Some of our books come from Christian publishers, while others come from secular sources. However, each is reviewed with the perspective of the Biblical worldview in mind. Our curriculum and resources align with Indiana's educational standards.
4. How much homework do you expect? Homework has two purposes:
- to practice concepts introduced in the classroom and
- to develop responsibility through independent work. Based on this outlook, there is minimal homework in first and second grades with an increasing amount beginning in the third and fourth grades. Daily homework should be expected in fifth through eighth grades as students prepare for the independent study required in high school.
5. Do you have a dress code? Our dress code is based on certain expectations including:
- The Bible teaches that we are to dress with decency and propriety, so that our good deeds and character bring attention to the Lord instead of our clothing attracting attention to ourselves. With this in mind, all clothing must be modest and in good condition.
- Students are not to wear clothing that promotes values that conflict with the purpose and character of TPCA. Inappropriate clothing includes anything that promotes alcohol, satanic symbols, violence, indecency, vulgar language and people or groups that represent those outlooks.
6. What is your discipline practice? We believe the goal of Christian discipline is self-discipline under the influence of God’s Spirit in a person’s life. At TPCA, we work to help children establish and practice a personal behavior that is pleasing to God and beneficial to the child and all of those around him or her. Each teacher establishes a classroom discipline plan based on school standards. These standards and the procedures for discipline are more extensively defined in the parent handbook.
7. Do you have programs for gifted students or those with learning difficulties? Our goal is to help every enrolled student achieve at a level commensurate with his or her ability. The more capable student is given the opportunity to move at a faster rate through grouping and appropriate work based on his/her ability. If a student faces problems in the classroom, parents will be asked to assist the teacher in identifying the source of the problem. There are limited openings in TPCA’s Resource Room, which is designed for students with known learning difficulties.
8. Do you offer any extra-curricular activities? Students in 5th - 8th grade who meet TPCA’s grade eligibility requirements may compete in baseball, soccer, basketball, volleyball, track, softball, baseball and cheer squad. Selected Middle School students may participate in an elected student council, the National Junior Honor Society, the yearbook committee, and other options. Other after- school programs (such as computer, science, art, and math clubs) are added if there is student interest and available leadership.
9. Where do students go after completing eighth grade? Our graduates have been successful in every high school setting. However, in the fall of 2008, TPCA will open our own college preparatory high school program! Beginning with the addition of a 9th grade class, an additional grade will be added each school year until all grades 9 - 12 are available by the fall of 2011. With the added high school division, TPCA will be able to offer a Christ centered education to families with children aged preschool up to college age.
10. How is TPCA governed? TPCA is incorporated as an Indiana nonprofit organization and is governed by a self-perpetuating board of directors.
11. How is TPCA financed? TPCA is primarily financed by income from tuition and activity fees. However, the school does derive income from events, gifts, estates, foundations, and other fundraising efforts. We encourage our families and friends to help us to build a financial foundation for program improvement and facility expansion. As an approved nonprofit organization, all gifts to TPCA are tax deductible. Gifts should be directed to:
