Two hundred and eighty people packed a sold out Traders Point AMC Showplace on October 1 as the TPCA Dad's Club sponsored a private showing of the new movie, "Courageous" by Sherwood Productions (makers of the movie "Fireproof"). The movie had some serious messages to Christian men and their families.
Gentlemen, the movie easily moved us to reconsider our responsibilities as a father and husband. It's easy to puff up our chests and take our sword up and fight for our family, justice and the LORD. But we need to be reminded again about what the pastor said to those courageous men in the movie when they made a pact before God and their family. When there are no arguments and stresses, it's easy to keep your resolution [to lead your family and take responsibility for training your children to love our LORD]. When times are good, we do not waver and decisions and actions seem so clear and easy to make. But when you're facing real work commitments, requirements, pressures, temptations...will you stand up? Without a support system it is far too easy to fall. It is critical to find a mens support group to challenge you and stand behind you during the good and the not-so-good times.
The Traders Point Christian Academy Dad's Club and the Traders Point Christian Church Men's Fraternity exist to challenge, love and support men in their work as fathers and seekers of Christ. If you are looking for a group that wants to do exactly that, please reach out to either group.
To all the men who attended the movie or who take the opportunity to see it, thank you for making the commitment to be Courageous. We hope it will spark a fire in your commitment to your spouse and children. TPCA Dad's Club leaders are available any day, any time to help dads get plugged in to a Christian-based, support system. Don't hesitate to reach out.
Mark Kowal, TPCA Dad's Club president, has a few Resolution books and copies of The Resolution (for fathers to sign) available if you want one. The book further develops the themes in the movie calling men to lead, and is available for both men and their spouse. Just contact him at dadsclub@tpcs.org. May God bless you, your family and your resolution to be a man of Christ in dedicating your household to serving the LORD.
